About Us.....

Doug and Renate met in January 1984 while watching the Superbowl at a common friend’s home. Both were studying at Baptist Bible College in Pennsylvania preparing for the ministry.

Doug was reared in a Christian home. His parents are missionaries in Brazil. When he was five years old, Doug went with his mother to a Vacation Bible School. His mom told the story of Moses and when she made a simple invitation, God touched his heart. Doug prayed that day with his Mom and asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be Master of his life. Since then, Doug has felt the call of God in his life. After high school, he headed off to the States to prepare for the ministry.

Renate accepted the gift of salvation when she was 17 years of age just before graduating from high school. She was baptized and became a member of Evangel Baptist Church in Taylor, Michigan, Quite soon after that, she also felt the touch of God in her life to missionary work. She set out to BBC to prepare for what God had for her.

After two years of dating while in college, Doug and Renate married in August 1986. They joined Baptist Mid-Missions in July 1987.  They arrived on the field in June of 1987. They studied Portuguese in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará and completed language studies in February of 1992.

From 1987 to 1988 and then from 1992 to 1995, The Reiners worked at the Igreja Batista in the city of Casa Nova,Bahia. The Reiners were short term missionaries filling in for Tim and Vicki Reiner while they were on furlough.

From 1991 to 1992, the Reiners worked at the Igreja Batista in the city of Crato, Ceará. Here Doug filled the pulpit when necessary and taught Sunday School while in language school.

From 1993 until 2002 they worked at the Igreja Batista Maranata church in the city of Sobradinho, Bahia. They received property that was donated by the city and built the main auditorium and Sunday School rooms.  This ministry started with EBEC (Escola Biblica Evangelizadora de Criancas) which eventually brought in adults.

From 1996 to 2006, they worked at the Igreja Batista de Surdos church in the bairro Vila Eduardo, in Petrolina, PE.  Here they assisted in the construction of Auditorium and Sunday School rooms. Then they added a court in 1998. A Nursery, kitchen and patio were added in 2000.  At this ministry, they worked with Ruthie Burton, Claudia Nicea Ferreira, and Tim and Vicki Reiner. Doug helped by teaching Sunday School, preaching, conducting conferences, special programs, plays, choir, tutoring the deaf, sports, etc.

From 2004 to 2005, they assisted the Igreja Batista church in the bairro of Jardim Amazonas, in the city of Petrolina, Pernambuco. At this church Doug preached, did counseling, and visitation ministry during a pastoral transition.

From 2003 through 2004 and then again in the fall of 2007, Doug and Renate assisted at the  Igreja Batista Manancial church, in the Dionisio Torres suburb of Fortaleza, Ceará. Once again Doug’s ministry involved preaching and teaching Sunday School during a pastoral search. They also were involved in many programs.

Since January 2008, Doug and Renate have assisted the Igreja Batista Esperança church in the Tancredo Neves suburb of Juazeiro, in the state of Bahia. Property was bought and building erected in 1998 Doug and Renate have assisted this church through preaching, teaching Sunday School, ladies's ministries, EBEC, evangelism, etc.

They are also teaming up with the Esperança church and another missionary couple in two new Church plants in the suburbs of Petrolina and neighboring Juazeiro.

Doug and Renate Reiner have also been involved in the following ministries not directly related to their church planting projects. Renate has served as the Northeast Regional Secretary and served on staff at the Fortaleza Academny. Both Doug and Renate have served as the Fortaleza Academy Dorm Parents.
