My Story

Renate accepted the gift of salvation when she was 17 years of age just before graduating from high school. She was baptized and became a member of Evangel Baptist Church in Taylor, Michigan, Quite soon after that, she also felt the touch of God in her life to missionary work. She set out to BBC to prepare for what God had for her.

Renate graduated from Clarks Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible College) in May of 1987. She had married Douglas Reiner the previous year. They arrived on the field of Brazil in June of 1987 for a one year short term ministry. And later returned as full-time missionaries in February of 1991. They served as church planters until 2016 when Doug accepted a position at the Baptist Mid-Missions office in Cleveland, OH.

Doug served as interim pastor of three national churches, Treasure Island Camp director, Baptist Mid-Missions northeast regional president and treasurer, Brazil field treasurer, the Fortaleza complex director and ministry facilitator. Renate has served as wife and mother, the BMM northeast regional secretary, ESL teacher, Christian curriculum publications coordinator, seminar teacher and has a Master of Education degree from Clarks Summit University. Both Doug and Renate served as Fortaleza Academy Dorm Parents. They had two children who were born and grew up on the field, Alex Jay, born in 1988 and Candice Jane, born in 1991.

Shortly after their return to the US in 2016, Doug was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The Lord took him home a year later. Since then, Renate has returned to full-time ministry as chief editor for Sunday School curriculum at the Editora Batista Regular, a ministry of BMM in Brazil. She makes trips to Brazil twice a year to participate in training, seminars and conferences. The rest of the year she works from home in North Carolina where she lives with her mother and 4 dogs.
